Sean and Mum, reliving fond childhood memories with Driving Miss Daisy Didcot
“Situated at the mouth of Christchurch harbour, this sandy spit of beach forms a barrier between the sea and this large natural harbour. There are great views both of the harbour itself and to the Isle of Wight and Needles across the Solent.
The beach extends off the ancient headland of Hengistbury Head with the whole area designated a Site of Nature Conservation Interest. As such there is no direct road access and the nearest parking is around15-minute walk away. The good news for those who don’t fancy the walk is there is a year-round land train running from Hengistbury Head car park to Mudeford Sandbank. Alternatively, you can take a ferry from Christchurch or Mudeford Quay across the harbour entrance.” – thebeachguide.co.uk
Is it any wonder that Sean Tucker, has such fond memories of the many trips his parents would take him on to Mudeford when he was growing up.
Sean came into our offices last year to enquire about day trips where he could take his Mum, who is now elderly and resides at Marlborough Court Retirement Village in Didcot.
As Sean’s mum is living with dementia and a wheelchair user, he wasn’t sure what possibilities were available to him.
Telling us the story of his trips to Mudeford, Sean was thrilled to learn that we could take them both there to reminisce their early family memories once more. He knew his mum would be delighted too.
Due to the sudden outbreak of Covid restrictions shortly afterwards, Sean and his Mum had to wait over a year before they could do so; but on 27th of July this year they set off with our Co-Director and Companion Driver Terence for their long awaited trip down memory lane.
Sean and his Mum were able to enjoy a 2.5 hour visit to the beach and a relaxing bite to eat, safe in the knowledge that Terence was waiting for them to return them home to Didcot.
Looking at their faces (and we got a thumbs up) we know that this trip was priceless to them.
Fascinating Fact:
Mudeford came to national prominence recently as the home to some of the most expensive beach huts in the country, fetching over£100,000. There are around 300huts here many of which have residential status, unlike elsewhere.
