A local business man from West Sussex is hoping to clean up in the Chichester area after becoming the new owner of professional oven-valeting firm Ovenu.
Alisdair Murray, 45, from Bognor, will manage and direct the operations of the business that will serve customers across the Chichester and Bognor area. He has ambitious plans to rapidly grow the business over the next twelve months.
Alisdair is taking over the business from former owner Colin Matthews, who has successfully established the company and built a customer base.
Founded in 1994, Ovenu’s environmentally-friendly service attracted more than 50,000 customers per year across the UK alone. The franchise model has been successfully replicated around the world, including Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
The valeting service involves dismantling key components of an oven such as the door, interior panels, fan and shelves and placing them into design-registered equipment, which uses non-caustic products to clean the oven parts. The whole process takes around three hours and leaves the oven, hob and exterior in immaculate condition.
Previously employed as a flight dispatcher at Gatwick Airport, Alisdair worked at the airport for 15 years before taking voluntary redundancy when a major contract ended.
He decided to invest his redundancy in a franchise, as he wanted to become his own boss and start to develop his own business in the local area.
Alisdair said: “Taking voluntary redundancy gave me the opportunity to start out on my own, so I did a lot of research in to the different options available to me.
“I wanted to start a business within my local community, so when the opportunity arose to take over Ovenu, an already established business, I jumped at the chance. With Ovenu I found I could take ownership of a substantial area, something missing in many other franchises I looked at.
“Original franchisee owner, Colin Matthews, has worked very hard to establish the business in the area and I am keen to build on this and to develop it even further, with rapid expansion over the next year.”
Rik Hellewell, Managing Director of Ovenu said: “Essentially, franchising is about starting a new business with the support, back up and advice of a larger network behind you. If you add, in the case of a resale, an established client base and a respected local profile then a franchise area can become an even more attractive proposition for a new franchisee that is willing to build on the initial success.”
