Somerset entrepreneur Martin McNeill is swapping blow torches for scourers by launching a specialist oven valeting business, Ovenu.
Former metal smith Martin, 36, of Gillingham, will serve householders in Yeovil and the surrounding areas including Wincanton, Sherborne and Stalbridge with his environmentally-friendly valeting service.
Ovenu’s valeting process is popular with householders across the UK, taking the pain out of one of the most hated and neglected chores. Since 1994 Ovenu’s UK-wide network of 100 franchisees have cleaned more than one million ovens, microwaves, and barbeques.
Its valeting service involves dismantling key components of an oven such as the door, interior panels, fan and shelves and placing them into design-registered equipment, which uses non-caustic products to clean the oven parts.
The whole process takes around three hours and leaves the oven, hob and exterior in immaculate condition.
After 20 years as an expert metalsmith, Martin has made the decision to become his own boss to be able to better manage his work/life balance and spend more time working directly with customers.
His previous career involved the design and creation of stylish bespoke metal products used for interior design such as lighting, chandeliers, fire screens and banisters.
Martin said: “I’m really looking forward to establishing my new business in Yeovil and I hope I can make it an invaluable service to local people who hate cleaning their ovens!
“Although I spent the majority of my career in the workshop, during the past year most of my time was spent in the office looking after production and purchasing. It was at this time I realised I could put these new skills to good use to run my own business and have the opportunity to work directly with my customers.”
