Rainbow International – Powys & Mid Wales received an instruction during
The recent storms in Wales to attend to a flood at a property in East Wales.
During the phone call it came to light that it was muddy water coming down from the hillside. It was building up around the house but was no longer ingressing. The instruction came in as “normal” but after speaking to the policyholder, it was obvious an urgent response was required and Adrian Howells and his team were on site within the hour. It was clear as soon as they arrived that the muddy water was in fact thick clay mud and was smelling badly, so after moving some antiques to safety, they set to work with wellies and shovels to clear the worst from inside the property.
An estimated 10 tonnes of mud was involved in the incident, which initially filled and blocked the drainage system and subsequently the septic tank, which then overflowed back outside! The situation inside was well under control within a few hours, and all contents were saved and subsequently restored, except for the carpets, which were beyond restoration. The elderly resident was not overly distressed by the incident and simply said to the Rainbow technicians when they arrived,
“If we could sort out the carpets for her, she would clean up the rest”. An eight tonne tanker, three days labour and a JCB with 12 tonne skip were needed to clean the exterior and interior of the property, the resident was, in hindsight, pleased she left it to Rainbow to organise!
