Deborah Gatland – Lingotot Portsmouth Franchisee Case Study
Lingotot is an education franchise, founded in 2010 by Angela Sterling, who provide language classes for children in a way that is fun and engaging. After beginning their franchise journey in the North East of England, Lingotot now have over fifty franchisees UK wide and are expanding internationally.
Deborah Gatland decided to join the Lingotot education franchise during the first national lockdown and launched Lingotot Portsmouth in September of 2020. Deborah grew up in Portsmouth herself and now lives in the Fareham area with her husband and young family. With a degree in modern languages (German, French and Spanish) and years of experience as a peripatetic music teacher in local schools and colleges, the Lingotot vision aligned perfectly with Deborah’s background.
Deborah is also a professional performing musician and was subsequently affected hugely by the national lockdown as events and venues were closed. Following this pivotal change, Deborah began to look for something in which she could continue to funnel her passion for music and teaching whilst utilizing her language skills.
When Deborah found Lingotot, not only was she excited at the prospect of combining her experiences, but she was impressed by the way in which Lingotot carried out their classes. She says, ‘I love the Lingotot approach to language learning for little ones; fun and engaging sessions, learning languages in a natural way as we would do with our native language.’
Deborah and Lingotot Portsmouth have expertly managed to adapt to the new norms that the COVID-19 pandemic has enforced, moving classes online where need be and introducing strict social distancing measures when face-to-face classes have been possible. It is with this hard work that Lingotot Portsmouth have tirelessly and continually strived for success in the face of adversity.
