Baby College
Summary
Baby College is a highly successful company that has been running for over 20 years. Baby College is a unique programme, backed by science and loved by parents. Classes have been developed to give every child the best start in life and every parent the best start on their new parenting journey.
The fun, interactive classes get both parents and babies inspired and learning and gaining essential skills that will set them up for a lifetime of success. Classes are from birth all the way up to 4 years old with additional massage and nursery programmes to add to the core three age appropriate programmes. Parents love that classes incorporate music, movement, sensory, massage, cognitive, language and signing for an all-round multi-activity baby and toddler development class. The emphasis is on engaging and inspiring parents just as much as little ones.
The franchisor of Baby College, Bea Waterfield, is based in Oxfordshire and works closely with academics at Goldsmiths, UCL , Middlesex and Oxford Universities. Baby College has franchise territories across the UK and internationally.
Case Study
Kate Hughes is the franchisee for Baby College Oxford
What is your background?
“With a music degree and a Teaching Qualification, working with youngsters made perfect sense. I worked as a school teacher before having, and then spending some years at home with, my 3 children. This changed life, and made me look for a job that fitted around family life but also gave me the independence of running my own schedule.”
Why did you choose Baby College?
“Baby College Oxford was something I chanced upon and I have never looked back. I love that Baby college incorporates the latest scientific research whilst teaching parents about the development of their little ones.”
How is it going?
“Since taking over the Baby College Oxford franchise in September 2022, I have opened 2 new venues (to add to the 3 other already healthy ones), met hundreds of amazing parents, worked with local communities to help those that are unable to attend, and I now have around 250 families on my books. It is an incredible feeling when you receive an email from a parent thanking you for making a difference in their lives and for giving them ideas to use at home with their babies. This job gives you the bonus of earning as much as I did when I was teaching (possibly even more the way I’ve grown the franchise), but with the flexibility to make my own hours. After expanding this summer over Sept/Oct 2023 the business has made me almost £9k in just two months! I get to drop off my kids, do my classes, and still pick them up after it all. It’s a fantastic way of getting the work/family balance life that we all dream of.”
Would you recommend this to others?
“I never thought that I would be running a business of my own, earning a decent salary, whilst being so well supported, and loving every second of it. It was the best decision I ever made and there is so much more to still go on and do! I love my job!!!!!”
