The award-winning Motivation & Co was created by Elaine Everett in 1998 after watching her grandfather, who had Alzheimer’s disease, and his fellow residents in a care home and feeling they were under stimulated and had little opportunity in terms of social interaction.
She created a professional service that she provides to care homes, designed to help residents maintain physical and mental dexterity and ability. She brought together a group of specialist advisers accredited to work with older people and they developed the structure of a Motivation & Co class which includes exercises and games.
From its head office in Tadcaster, Yorkshire, Motivation & Co is growing fast and works with 20,000 participants each month, based at more than 800 nursing home, residential care, dementia units, day care centres, learning disability and neurological care homes. One programme developed for NHS Hertfordshire to support dementia clients at risk of falls saw results which included a 66% improvement in client stability, 55% reduction in hospital visits and an estimated saving of £78,000 for the NHS.
All Motivational Therapists are given intensive training through Motivation & Co’s own unique training centre so they can provide a professional service to the care sector. The company also provides training for employees within the care sector and won the 2017 Great British Care award for ‘Care Innovator’.
